Blade Exhaust Modifier

I was cruising around on the tech websites that I normally look at and noticed an article about Blade, some system that supposedly helps the environment and increases gas mileage. I took a look at it and seems (based on the news reviews it has) that it could actually be legit. Granted, I have trouble seeing why something that would restrict air flow at the tail pipe could increase gas mileage, but I'm no automotive expert.

Anyone heard of this or tried it?

From the data on the page:

"The BLADE is NOT a high performance product. Extreme driving may cause damage to
the filter carteridge which could require cartridge replacement."

I agree, I don't understand how restricting the exhaust helps increase fuel milage.

"
Attach BLADE to your tailpipe and:
  • Reduce emissions of CO2 up to 12%.
  • Capture toxic particulate material.
  • Save hundreds of dollars per year on gas.
Lab tested, proven results, planet friendly.
"
'What it does'. 'How it works'.

I can understand the first two since it filters out the bad stuff from your exhaust but I do not see how it could help with gas mileage.

According to Gizmodo, there does not seem to be support for this claim from the California Air Resources Board or the EPA.

That's where I pulled it from, and actually, what they say is that it DOES have support from EPA and California Air Resource Board.

It seems a little far-fetched (and it probably is), but Blade does have support from both the California Air Resources Board and the EPA.
Reading a bit more, I guess they claim that it increases the Volumetric Efficiency of the engine and the Catalytic Converter. Maybe one of those helps the MPG?

it is stated that the BLADE does not create Backpressure... backpressure is exhaust restriction... If it did create backpressure/exhaust restriction then it would be illegal in California

However, supposedly they want me to believe that this filter won't do the same thing that a bend in the exhaust does...

What makes the filter any different from the bend?

exhaust hits the filter, some goes in, some goes out the tip, and some has to get bounced back (based on their science that obstacles cause backpressure).

Heck, kill some emissions and you're legal for CA...
