Has anyone installed one of the Brabus rear area lights? From what the point of sales guy has told me, it plugs into the in situ smart harness, and it is installed in a hole cut in the center of the rear trim panel.

What I want to know is how hard it is to route the cabling for this light. The seller was not willing to part with a copy of the installation instructions, so I've got no help there. Has anyone else attempted an install of this rear light?

Inquiring minds want to know...

I own a non Brabus Cabrio, and was unimpressed witht the lack of light in the back, so I went to a local car accessories place (Mega-Watt Car Stereo and Security Systems), and had installed a LED array on both sides under the dash, and two lights in the back. It is wired to the single light, so it comes on when you open the trunk.

Now I can see what is in the trunk when it is night!

Here is a link to pictures: Lights in the Smart Car

pictures are up on the site. You still have to drill a hole, and splice into the front wiring harness by the look of it. Save your money and do the install I did:

HowTo: Ultimate Smart Trunk Light DIY (lots of pics) - smart USA insider

Costs about $25 including LED's

The total price for my complete install was under $110. Since I have a Cabrio, I have no place to put lights in the ceiling like a coupe. So the lights I have work better for me.

But your install looks great.

Sorry, I guess I read your post too fast, I missed the Cabrio part. You're right, my install won't work, sorry. But thanks for the compliment!

Great place to install LED lighting in the cabrio: through the plastic covering the roll bar.
