Has anyone found ceramic brake pads for the 453? After 1,000 miles the front wheels on my Prime are covered with brake dust, just like my 2013 Pure was. After changing to ceramic pads from Rock Auto problem was solved. We need reduced dust pads for the 453.
not an easily VISIBLE problem, no... but black or brushed, brake dust still can do quite a number to the wheels. Might not see all the black specks and smudges like you normally would, but i'm sure eventual pitting could become visible.
I had to research what Kevlar was. Some sort of carbon/(I'm afraid that's equivalent to organic) compound! One blog post comparing Kevlar with ceramic noted more dust with Kevlar. Hopefully soon... (Maybe I'll check my usual parts websites in a little bit. I'm somewhat sleepy this morning).
Remember, this is a low-volume, niche vehicle that hasn't been out very long. Wasn't much available for the 451 the first couple of years either... Shoot, it's only been within the last year that a decent selection of common replacement parts have become available through the aftermarket. 2 years ago, you still had to go to the dealer for wheel bearings & shocks & struts...
Most owners don't have enough miles on them to even consider changing brake pads...
Yea... that's what started to happen to my '09 Brabus ForTwo's front rims after a little while.... which prompted me to say hell with it and bought a set of Kleen Wheels. Essentially just a very thin metal shield that goes against the back of the spokes of the wheel to sit between the wheel and brake disc/caliper to stop brake dust from flying to the pretty side of the wheel. Only downside to those, though, is that they tend to make the rim look weird if you were to remove the Kleen Wheel at some point.
Got the Greenstuff and EBCs slotted and dimpled front rotors back in the day for the W126. I think they squeaked so bad the shop that had done the work switched in TexStars, or something like that. I think they are some sort of semi-metalic formulation?
So has anyone found any nice (preferably ceramic, maybe?) front brake pads for the 453? Don't want to end up getting the wrong ones, and none of the normal auto parts chains seem to have any pads listed for the 453.
Ok... since it seems nobody has found any ceramic pads for the 453... i purchased a set of EBC GreenStuff from SmartStuff.parts for it.
One question i have, though... As far as i can tell, a 7mm hex key is required to remove the two bolts holding the caliper in place. is that the correct size?
