Breaking into a Cabriolet is really easy

Just a warning to other members of this forum that have a Cabriolet, its really really easy to break into a cabriolet when it locked up.

It would take a properly equipped and not very talented thief maybe 10 seconds.

The good news is that the thief would need to plan ahead as it is not a spur of the moment method.

I'm not going to tell people how to do it in this public forum but trust me I saw him do it on my car in about 15 seconds.

Of course a thief could always just cut a hole in your roof to get the stereo so its really pretty easy anyway but it was a little discouraging to see how easy it was to use a non-destructive method of getting into my car.

yes, that's the primary reason why adding the alarm system was a no brainer for our cab. So what happened in your case - did you get the guy, or did he flee?

PS..any hints?

That is why I ordered mine with the alarm....it alerts me, and then I shoot the person whose hand is in my car.

Didn't the alarm scream?

Thus, I went for the passion coupe.

I was also worried about the convertible parts breaking. It' was just my preference I guess to go with the hard top. Now I am glad I did...

Thanks for sharing the info!

smarticus - carry a back-up key, or hide a key in one of the de dion tubes and; always aim high. bradgarbus is right, don't take the chance of possibly hitting the smart.

Nothing Is Fool Proof Thats Why I Have Both The Alarm And A Total Insurance Package That Covers This Car. Also I Try Not To Park Where It Is Dark And Also Close To Where Theres A Lot Of People. This Key Is Too Large To Carry Two, If I Could Get One Without The Remote So It Would Fit Into My Wallet I Would Carry A Spare As I Do With My Other Two Cars.

Any convertible is an easy mark, and an alarm is largely worthless against your average "smash 'n grab 'n run" thief. They are taking your stuff, they could care less about cutting the top, or smashing the glass. Don't leave ANYTHING in your car the factory didn't put there. Don't make it easy.

ANY ragtop can be broken into in shorter time than it takes to get the razor cutter out of your pocket. Back when AMC was building Jeeps they didn't even bother putting locks on the doors on the soft-top versions.
