To buy or not to buy, extended Warranty???

O.K., got the question of weather or not to buy the extended warranty or not. What are your thoughts on the subject????
I know I really can't afford to buy the extended Warranty....But then, is it worth it. I can't afford costly repairs also.
My closest dealer is 4 hours away....how do I get my Smart to a dealer 4 hours away, should it need a repair..like it not starting...I am on the orphan list, and close on the list to getting a smart..Would like some info, before I go and pick her up.
is the extended Warranty worth it???
How do I get my smart in for repairs should it break down???
Thanks guys for all your help!
~Sue

I hate extended warranties but I popped for it, and they will tow your car.

They will tow your smart????? 4 hours away? and redeliver it back to you??? is that covered under the waranty??? Might be worth the extended, if they tow it the 4 hours each way!!!
Anyone know if they have a tow limited mileage?? or if I would be covered for a 4 hour tow??

Thought about it - and am still thinking about getting the warranty. As you know you can go back a couple months / miles later and still get it. My thought is to say no though.

When my car was towed to the dealer, they called to advise it was ready to pick up. I haven't heard of a car being delivered back to a distant owner at no charge by the dealer or PAG. Anybody?

Sue, read the many posts on this subject on this site.
There is no "extended Warranty", only an "arms length" 3rd party service contract is being sold by the dealers. A2Jack.

You forgot to mention that it is "sponsored" by smartUSA as the "official" extended service plan. Dealers are also free to pick up any other third party ESP they want to. I would go with the smart branded one.

good question to ask your dealer.....I know the little pamphlet doesn't say anything about towing, but we have a copy of the contract somewhere here on the forum....might be worth searching for a look see!

I was just told last week that you have to buy the extended warranty before 1 year of 12K miles. Originally, my dealer told me that I cold buy it anytime up to the point that my factory warranty expired. What a gyp! I sure wish we had some long term reliablity data. Consumer reports and others don't recommend extended waranties since most folks would be better off investing the $1200. If it was a Honda or Toyota I would never buy an extended warranty. However, M-B's has been pretty poor for quite some time now!

looks like the jpg files of each of the five pages of the extended service contract we had here via evoluzione.net are no longer available.

Any one out there who has purchased an extended contract care to share/supply us a copy?
