I just HAVE to have a Smart car...we saw them for the first time about 10 years ago in Germany, I was there for Alternative cancer treatments...So dog gone it...they never said I would live this long..so as long as I can hold on until I get my smart! LoL I am glad we don't have to buy the "extended" on"D-day" so thats a good thing. I guess I just need to read over everything and then let my hubby decide..that way I can always blame him later...LOL I need to get my smart first and for most..it is so hard not to think they are just going to hand me my Smart with a bow on it and say here you go....In my head, thats how it will go. Can anyone also tell me how hard is the financing? I am not rich by any means, and dealing with Cancer, we have had to go through bankruptcy for all of our high med bills. we were on a pay back plan..I think that is chapter 11 maybe? But we paid the money back kinda thing. that was a few years ago....all we owe is a small amount on our house and our car. other than that we are debt free...But I am also now on disability and that is our only income...Hubby takes care of me...that's a job in it'self! Has anyone had any problems with getting financing?? I should start a new tread for this I guess....sigh....I have NEVER wanted a car like I want the Smart...waited to order until I could test drive one, to make sure I could get in and out of it, and drive comfortably..that is why we are at the back of the pack in getting one. But after test driving one..I was sooo sold! Just wondering...... Sue
One problem with the mechanical repair service contract is they will not cover your engine or transmission if it overheats. If the thermostate doesn't open and your engine overheats and freezes up it appears you are up the creek.
Is this the ONLY extended contract smartusa brands?
...i live in the freakin' Mojave Desert!...about 70 miles away from my nearest smart/Mercedes dealership. Also, at the time of purchase, I knew zero about the inner workings of the smartmobile...no shop manuals available yet. very little real tech info on the worldwideweb...
i have owned two Jeeps(Commanche truck, and Cherokee wagon) both with the trusty inline-six engine, traditional Jeep chasis and both with shop manuals. i did most of the repair work myself on both vehicles... from 1988 through 2008...twenty freakin' years!
however, the smart is too new and too un-tested for me to be monkeying around with...plus, i simply don't want to be wrenching on my ride anymore... i'll let someone else do the wrenching for a while...
i bought the exteneded service agreement for $995...not too much for the 60 months/ 60k miles of extra coverage...
Can anyone also tell me how hard is the financing? I am not rich by any means... Sue
Sue:
for me, the financing was easy-breezy!
i ended up putting $2000 down payment...but I as originally approved on a tiny $600 down payment!
by the way, I am a JH school science teacher...a decent income, but definitely not in the high-income tax bracket! Also, my credit rating is simply "okay", not stellar, but not low either...sort of in the middle of the range...

Shoot, they financed me of all people. And I got a much better rate than I did for the Explorer 2 years ago.
Well this makes me breath alittle easy....Thanks "GUYWITHTHELONGLASTNAME" Also, I tend to over worry...I have been waiting for a smart for over 10 years now...and I would hate that my cancer stole that also by my having less than steller credit after years of steller credit. That and with banks being jumpy now a days...and me with only a disability check in hand...Well I worry...but then, I do have a steady income..as long as I live..LOL I overthink things too much...that and stress is prolly why I have cancer in the first place!....well, not to be too dramatic...I now have something to live for....LOL Thanks guys for your info about financing...what kind of rate did you get? ~Sue

if you're that concerned, you can go to a credit-union and get pre-approved for the required about right now. there is absolutely no real reason to wait until the car is delivered and then go through smart for financing. you're likely to get a better rate through a CU anyway - and then you don't have to even deal with the stealership finance guys.
Drow-Z. You have the right level of commitment to make it work. Go with the Smart and "Damn the torpedoes".
We love our Smart and enjoy it every time we drive it. Good luck with your little car. A2Jack
Thanks A2Jack! If there is a way for me to get a Smart, believe me I will find it!..LoL I think I might try our credit Union to see what kind of rate I can get now....still waiting for the phone to ring saying We have a Smart Orphan for you!.....still waiting
Interesting, I got a GE 5 star warranty (and warranty is the word it uses)
