Depends on the DEALER and product being hocked when you can "buy in"
MOST after market extended service contracts can be PURCHASED even after the original factory warranty is expired
NO company in America will extend your factory warranty for any amount of money
If you have a problem child car, an extended service contract may be worth the price. But generally speaking, they are mostly profit producers for the seller and rarely pay out for the buyer
There are a lot of threads on this subject
If you MUST have this expensive (IMO) peace of mind then I suggest you research Warranty Direct or Ford ESP for a quote
Also, do NOT be shy about getting several "on line" quotes and then dickering with your dealer for a better price for the smart Branded product...
Do be mindful that the smart branded product is NOT backed up by smartUSA, Penske Auto Group (PAG), or Mercedes Benz
And if you have the time a side by side review of ALL the small print will show that the smart branded product has a LOT more "weasel words"* then Warranty Direct does
* Weasel words = exclusions, special conditions, or extra hoops to leap through
