buying on the lot SMART?

is there no way to buy one of the showroom cars they have at the dealerships, or what about the cars that after the 30-day call people end up not getting it, are they then sold to people with no wait?

they will not sell the showroom cars until next year when they get new demos in but when people back out on cars they already ordered the dealers will sell those...there are not too many and the demand for them is really high (not to sound pessimistic) but you can call a bunch of dealerships around you and give them your name and phone number and tell them you are interested in a car that is not wanted. They all do it differently...the dealership I work at is collecting a list, then calling everyone and whoever gets there first gets the car but at one in NJ they are going by who put their name on the list first. I would definitely call several dealerships to let them know you want to buy one of the orphan cars.

Each dealership is handling orphans differently. One is taking deposits for the list, another is calling the reservations they have first. A dealership is selling them to former clients and friends at MSRP. Here in Los Angeles we have seven smart centers within an hours drive of each other, so lots of orphan hunting chances here. Its a rich target environment for sure.

I was told by the Laguna Niguel Dealership that all orphan sales must be approved by Smart.

Not sure what the process would consist of, but I didn't talk to anyone from smart to get mine, although I did have one on $99 reserve, but only from November.

I keep getting a different story everytime I go to the dealer. The biggest drawback of this whole thing is at the end of the day you are still talking with a car salesmen who wants to be your new best friend.

I'm planning on going to a few dealerships this next week and see if any are available. I'm expecting a call soon anyways.

yes, they need to make sure the original reservation holder actually cancelled the order with Smart and receieved a refund of the $99. Once they have the dealership will have the approval to sell the car to someone else
