I thought LA paid less because shipments come into Long Beach. Thank you for the clarification.
I paid $650 in Beverly Hills, the same amount paid by someone near the ports in Baltimore, or someone in the mid-west. Its all the same, everywhere. All smarts are sold at MSRP plus any dealer added accessories (on some orphans). So the price in California is the same as in Florida (except that bogus "doc fee."
I do not expect the finance companies to pay said fees. It is interesting Capital Onn claims a 2008 Smartfortwo Passion should cost no more than $16337.00. No matter what the DMV fees, title registration, taxes and license total, Capital One claims the total cost of the vehicle (not options) should not exceed $16337.00. Capital One will not finance beyond $16337.00 (not a credit issue; a market value decision).
Well I think Capital One is on to something - Is this an orphan you're purchasing? I believe the highest MSRP on the passion you can max out on with all options is $15,180 plus destination. So YES, your dealer is soaking ya!
Hmmmm, I paid sticker, financed through Chase, and put $5k down
Im not in Cali but I put nown $4,500 and was finaced through Chase as well. I payed sticker $16590 plus add comfort package and 399 destination charge. I am happy with the price I paid with no Mark ups.
Capital One Finance is telling me the most they will finance for my Smartfortwo Passion $16337.20. This is a problem, as my San Jose dealer wants $17335.00 for the car (vehicle, destination, tax, license). I start out $1000.00 in the hole before options.
I would look for another company to finance your smart. Many will let you finance the cost of the car plus 20% above for tax, license, options. I know Wells Fargo and Bank of America will finance all of it! Dealer financing will usually cover your purchase price as well!
