I've gone over the pros and cons of both but just can't decide!!!! I live in New Mexico where it's quite sunny and warm from about March to October so the weather isn't really a deciding factor. Help!!
If you have any doubt, go with the cabrio. I was originally going to get the coupe until I drove my husbands cabrio. So glad I changed my mind.
I received my car on 3/11/09 and have no regrets getting the cabrio! I love it!! Especially since you live in New Mexico. We live in So Cal and we only put the top up if it is raining.

Right now it's raining buckets here, but the cabrio was it for me. I've never had a red car and never had a convertible - not until mine gets here, probably next week.

I'm going to the one-year-open-house tomorrow and I'll probably make sad 'where's my car?' noises. I was told that it'd be here by 3/24/09 but I can hope, can't I? that it'll be here sooner... I've got the VIN so if I see a red cabrio with black tridion and black leather, I'll be checking that number to see if it's mine..

I love my Cabrio!!
I would have to say, the hot Summer months are not my favorite time of year to run with the top back though, since I have to run the A/C and that seems kinda silly. The sun beating directly on you at a traffic light can be intense! I've got a ball cap for some protection ... but the Dog Days of Summer require me to keep the roof closed for the most part.

My favorite weather for topless driving would be overcast with temps from 55 to 80. But, that's just me. When the weather doesn't suit you, close the roof. When it pleases you, open it up.

With the smart's cabrio design you can change your mind ...
Even at highway speed. Get the Cabrio!!!

I too like the cabrio. One nice feature on hot days: You can roll the top back from the key-fob before you get in. That lets all that hot air escape before you open the door. No more scorched eyebrows!

CABRIO!!!
No one ever went to their grave saying "Gee, I wish I'd bought a car that was less fun to drive."

(of course, being a cabrio owner i may be biased...)

I haven't had must chance to run with the top down (January to now in Minnesota... Brr) But I can't wait until this spring. The convertible really sold me on the smart!

Cheapest new convertible you can buy!

If im interpeting things right your in New Mexico. Go with the Cabrio. Lots of folks in the sun belt have had complaints about the heat gain with the Plexi roof down their. The Cabrio will help that, and if nothing else you can quickly let the heat out just bu opening the top.

You can pretty much cure the plexi roof . . .

You can pretty much cure the plexi roof heat problem by installing a cut down truck windshield shade over the sunscreen. I do that during the hot months here and along with a windshield shade in front and the tinted side windows open a inch or so, you can get in and start the car without experiencing heat-stroke!
In the fall/winter/spring I leave it out and run with the sunscreen back.
Still not a cabrio, but pretty neat~!

Well I have a cabrio and always have either my wheelchair or walker in the back, and it hasn't been a problem for me. I'm in southern Arizona and have my top down almost all the time (sometimes with the heated seat on!). I installed the deflector and usually have the windows up, so it's pretty quiet inside. And I love being able to open and close the top going down the highway!

I would never have bought a smart if the convertible weren't available. I've read several posts with people saying that they wish they had bought the cabrio. I can't remember a single cabrio owner saying they wish they had bought the coupe. - sheureka
