Cabrio Safety

I am just wondering with the part of the roof removed for the cabrio doesn't it lose some structural support in a crash? Would the Coupe be safer? I can't find any info on the net. What do you think?

My guess is there is very little difference. The snap out roof beams are probably very similar to the coupe's and I doubt the coupe's plastic top does much for it structurally.

I heard a salesmen say that the cabrio had been toughened up to take into account the rag top....so it might turn out the cabrio is acutally safer...hopefully one of the more technical readers here can chime in.

When test driving I asked the rep the same thing. He said they did take into account the removable bars, and the cell is still sound in safety crash tests.

Let's see the crash test video for the cabrio. I know Diamler has them.
