Cancel reservation?

I got my orphan about two months ago. At the time, my DDE said Jan2010-March2010. Now, it is up to October 2009-December 2009. Cant see any reason as of now to "upgrade" to a 2009. Rather hold out and see if the MHD or ED shows up for 2010. Besides, doesnt seem like it will be hard to find another orphan. Should I let the reservation ride and create another orphan or cancel it to give SmartUSA a better idea of demand? (I know my one reservation will not make a huge difference to them!) Not desperate for the $99 ideas?

Some will say create another orphan, but for my money canceling is the way to go and only fair to smart.

It's starting to look like their $99 reservation idea is catching up with them - way too many orphans available now.

The $99 rez was the only way we could get one. But, I would say cancel your rez before its built, and make a new one for 2010.

Hold on to the reservation and see what happens (unless you are intentionally resetting your DDE for 2010). The reservation is yours to keep or cancel as you see fit. They still make a profit either way...

I agree with both J's.

Don't create another orphan. It just floods the market and will not help our resale.

We canceled our 09 a day before confirmation and will reorder a 2010, or buy an orphan.

The wait game is over here in Michigan and Smarts can be purchased right off the shelve with no waiting. A2Jack

Don't do what I did. I canceled before my car came in. If I had to do it over again, I would at least wait until the car hit the showroom and THEN tell them. This way your local smart center gets an extra car to go to someone on THEIR orphan list.

If you cancel now, your order is canceled and your car will never be built. Someone will take your orphan at the end of next year if you don't want it. Besides, with a DDE of Oct-Dec, you could still get a 2010.

Speaking from experience, I would wait it out if i were you.

I think the economy has more to do with that than anything. Come next year, I'm guessing things will settle down and we'll have a 12 month plus wait again.

I agree that we do not want to create more orphans. But IMHO, if you do not need that $99 right away, I'd suggest you to hold onto your reservation until they ask you to configure. Who knows if they would run an early MHD or ED version special (limited quantity) introduction like they did with the Brabus?

Just happened to come across a post by kaneda (location: York, PA), which (I believe) can be a good reference for you. Sorry, don't know how to insert link for this particular post. It is post #256 in this thread:
Reservation time to Configuration time to Delivery time
