I got the passion and love it. If they had more stuff you can add on for the pure I might have considered it. But things like the paddle shifters and heated leather seats really sold me on the passion. Yes you will be paying for more but in the long run you'll enjoy it more as you get the options you wanted to begin with and not regret not getting certain stuff that you may or may not be able to customize.

Here's what you get with the passion that don't come with the pure:
panarama roof ($350 for pure)
alloy wheels
cd player ($350 for pure)
power windows
paddle shifters
air conditioning ($600 for pure)
electronic and heated side mirrors

Here are the options you can't add to the pure at config:
black, red, beige or leather interior
paddle shifters
power windows
fog lamps
tac & clock
heated seats
electronic and heated side mirrors
Comfort Package
smart premium sound system

Purely Passion

I have a passion, and yes it's true that you do get so much more with the passion than the pure. One of the things I would miss most after driving for a week in the Passion is the glass roof. So much light and bright! As for the paddle shifters, I honestly drive the car in "automated" mode most of the time. The AC will be important at a different time of the year - none the less important! I have a Black / Silver Tridon / Red interior, and I love the interior. It really makes the car POP a little.

Go with your heart - but I'd say to go with the Passion!;)

i like the KISS philosophy, manual windows, manual steering, this car is so light, the steering needs no power, i got the pure, i'll put in my own HD radio, i just added AC and the alarm. i drove a metro with fat 15" tires and did fine with manual steering. nice thing about the smart is no FWD torque steer.

Never let a lack of money make your decision for you.

Ughaaa
Here is an idea
Buy the Pure without any options at all. I am sure it will be one of maybe two or three in the world. LOL

Honestly, if seat color really is the only thing about the Passion that you want then you can probably just get seat covers or an upholsterer to recover the seats and dash.

I'll be doing seatcovers...

BTW, heated seats CAN be added to the pure.

I plan to get a black on black pure with only AC added for the following reasons (if anyone cares)

#1, the passion starts at 17% more $$ than the pure

Here's what you get with the passion that don't come with the pure:
panarama roof ($350 for pure)
*I don't like skin cancer*
alloy wheels
*rather have the steelies, remove the hubcaps and paint them flat black*
cd player ($350 for pure)
*I plan to install an in-dash GPS, probably Pioneer so I can get real time traffic*
power windows
*power windows will weigh the car down and my arms still work*
paddle shifters
*don't need them, the car shifts so slow anyways I don't see the point*
air conditioning ($600 for pure)
*will be getting this*
electronic and heated side mirrors
*I live in LA...*

Here are the options you can't add to the pure at config:
black, red, beige or leather interior
*I really want gray cloth as it will stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter*
paddle shifters
*ditto*
power windows
*ditto*
fog lamps
*LA again*
tac & clock
*stereo will have a clock and why do you need a tach in an AT?*
heated seats
*LA*
electronic and heated side mirrors
*LA*
Comfort Package
Power steering
*don't need it in a ~1800lb car, less weight=better mpg*
Leather seats
*hot in summer, cold in winter*
Heated seats
*LA*
Rain and light sensor
*I can tell when it is raining and when it gets dark*
Auto-off headlamps with exit delay
*don't need it*
smart premium sound system
*again with the GPS..*

Later...
