cant get insurance with Geico!!!!

Hi
has anyone else had this problem? My insurance company , Geico, told me that they will only insure my car for liability only.

Has anyone else had this problem? Who else should i go with?
What kind of yearly rates are people paying for full coverage?

I've already told Geico, (my current insurance), of my intended purchase and did not seem to have a problem with it. We'll see when we actually get the buggy.

I have Geico on my Smart, and the most competetive rate to boot! Britboy, I assume your not in the UK, so what state are you in, maybe that's the reason? Can you get an online quote from Geico, they do have the smart listed.
I tried Progressive, State farm, and Liberty Mutual (paired with Merc finance, and Smart for the highest quote yet - 1473/6)....Geico - Good record, 3 vehicles and $243/6months - 50/100/50

I just went to Geico's website to get a quote and they don't list the smart.

I got a quote from Geico early on just to test the waters, and it was pretty good. then when the car was due in, I got another and it was more than double the first time around. Every insurer seems to compete for highest quote now. Liberty Mutual is about the lowest, if you can believe that.
Someone told me that insurance companies charge a penalty if you haven't insured a car recently, and with luck and prudent driving skills, it'll adjust down after 2-3 years.
yikes, it's like I'm 16 again. without the sex.

I was told when I spoke to the Geico reps directly that apparently they're only allowed to offer full insurance for some VINs. I wonder if it's a pure/passion type difference? My little passion bumblebee is happily insured with Geico though. Maybe try calling again and specifically asking why they'll do liability only?

I talked to a Geico rep in person at a Home and garden thing at the Dallas convention center last month. I have three cars insured with them and they told me they only insure for liability b/c the car is so small and unsafe. They are afraid they might have to pay too many claims. I'll have to check the web site again since Cadman (I think) says he got full insurance in Ft. Worth, my sister city.

If you want a great insurance rate call AIG direct. I have been with them for the last 6 months, they smoked Progressive, and I had been with them for 8 years. They told me my rate will drop about 20% going from an '03 Dodge Stratus to the smart.
