Factory alarm?

From post #28:
Park smart car.

Exit and lock with remote.

Use remote key to unlock rear glass hatch.

Enter vehicle through rear glass hatch. (leave tailgate CLOSED)

Not sure, but if your car has the factory alarm it will be armed; when you use the fob to unlock the glass hatch does that disarm the alarm? If not, it will be really noisy until you get the battery disconnected.

This sounds pretty bad to me.

Consider the following scenario:

When you're away from your Smart, the battery dies. (perhaps you left your lights on?)
You return to your car, discover the dead battery, unlock the car, read the manual, and cry in frustration.
Then you decide you need to go for help for jumper-cables, or to call a friend, whatever. At this point, you cannot secure your car to go for help??!

That is a big WTF to me. You should always be able to secure your car.

I haven't been able to lock using central locking with the door open and the key in my pocket. Should that work? I always have to lock using the lock button on the key.

Door locking does not work with the doors open. I'm guessing that is so you won't lock the keys in the car.

Will one of the computer saver devices that plug into an accessory outlet have enough current to activate the door locks? It's only a 9v battery but it might give you one or two times of locking the doors. You'd also have to wire an outlet up to the "always on" fuse locations as the current outlet is controlled by the key.

Just a thought.

Still no answer...?

What I have stated in Post #22 actually was in jest because when there is no battery or dead battery in the smart, it would not help pressing the lock/unlock button.
So here we are... still dumbfounded with no simple straight forward solution.

At noon today, I used the key to open the driver's door and the inside handle opened the locked RH door.

Was the battery disconnected?
