Let's see: 28 mpg for 1/4 quarter mile. I think I can afford it.

Well, considering my 68 HP 1958 MGA 1500, at 1900 pounds does 0-60 in 15.6 sec, a and the 1/4 mile in 20.2, it will be faster than that. But a 1959 MGA 1600 goes 0-60 in 13.7 seconds, and does the 1/4 in 19.8 sec @73 MPH. So I'd expect somewhere between the two. Note that these cars get about 22 MPG on their ~70 HP.

OTOH, my humble Subaru gets 0-60 in 5.6 sec, and ~13.8 1/4 mile times on only a slightly larger 2000cc engine at half again the weight.

A bunch of 1600cc JCWs on this site can better that.

If you really want your Smart to rock on a 1/4 mile track, you'll need the Hayabusa upgrade.

Here's the SmartDiablo beating out a Ferrari.

My 30+mpg (hwy), plastic bodied, non-automatically shifted manual transmissioned two seater will do high 12s at 115 or so, 0-60 in the 4s. About 3100#, 5700cc, 341 hp at the wheels - slightly wider tires than a smart. It uses 94 octane, only has two airbags, and isn't worth a hoot in the snow, so I NEED a fortwo!;)

This link from the UK was posted elsewhere on the forum by Smartie (many thanks):

http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=7174840

According to their test run the 71PS fortwo did the quarter mile in 19.193s @ 69.57mph.

For comparison purposes, this is a Euro spec car with a slightly higher first gear and slightly less weight.
