Before you go to the more complex diagnosis process, check your battery voltage - if you've got a 450 and have a few years into the car, there's a possibility that low voltage is confusing the computer, especially if you've got lights or other things on, or an alternator starting to go bad. Voltage should be at least 11.5 (preferably higher) with engine and lights off first thing in the morning, or 13+ volts while running. Low voltage will affect computer signaling, headlights, even shifting - remember, that's an electric motor that drives the shift process. It was evident when my 451 had the smaller, 42Ah battery - after 8 months, shifting was slower, and the lights dimmed between gears.
