OK this is for the Northerners. ( and I know you southerners are going to flame me like I had left my car unlocked)

Does anyone plan on taking there Smart out on the Ice this winter. And by Ice I mean frozen lake.

I'll never take ANY car on a frozen lake. Too dangerous, and there is no point. I've lost two people I know from them taking a car onto the lake in the winter.

It has not gotten so cold that one can get a car on the ice here in central New Jersey. Even if it did, I still would not do it. It would be too dangerous and one would risk losing ones little car.

I have heard of racing on ice way way far north where they even drive trucks on an ice highway (in Canada). There was a tv series on it. The truck drivers could not go very fast so they would not create waves under the ice that would crack or break up the ice.

When I first read the title, I was thinking of something like 'Disney on Ice' type of thing with the characters from the Disney Cars movie.

Remember that ice on a lake is a lot different than ice on a road. Road ice is silky smooth. Lake ice is rough and jagged. You drive on lake ice and you'll wreak havoc on your tires and your suspension, especially at high speed.

If you want to drive something on ice, get a snowmobile or get a beater 4x4 truck.

I don't care how thick the ice is, I'm not driving on it. The thought of going through (which happens every year here in MN), should scare you to stay on shore.

I have driven on Ice many times before, Usualy with a Small car when all the Suburbans have lead the way. Or on Clear Ice that I can see is over 1' thick. One time for a Kite event because I needed something to Anchor a kite to, anything else would just slide away under the pull of the kite, any kite. That was up in Vt.
