Call the dealership where you want to pick your smart up at. Let them know what's up so they can effectively communicate with smartUSA and their area representatives and get it done for you. It's tough; time is crucial to changing your dealer when you have one on order.

I was told that you CAN change dealers.

I configured and am now waiting delivery, however I'm moving out of state in two days (this wasn't in my plan when I configured) so I was rather concerned about being able to change!! I called the 1-800# and was told I would be receiving a routing email soon. Supposedly this email means that my car has started production.

Either way, once I get this email I am supposed to call smart and give them my new address and new dealer. Supposedly it will be as easy as that.

I was told that also from 800 smart #. So, I called the dealer I wanted to change to and they ( Location manager ) said that is not right. You can not change once rout once it is planned. They got on the issue and got it changed. The last E-mail I got from Detroit Area manager said since my car did not go into production yet it would be OK to change locations.

Changing the dealer could change the date. Have you not been reading the posts in this forum. Delievery depends on how busy your dealer is. Dealers with low output, IE sales on reserve are not getting priority. Round Rock gets their cars in tops of 10 months. Others that are in BFE are taking over a year and half. Heck, the one guy swapped his dealer from Dallas to Round Rock and it moved.

Agreed, absolutely. Generally speaking.
In this specific case though, 'wildman' already has configured and a DDE. That's why I suggested that the delivery wouldn't change... Just the destination.

He can change the destination by calling the 1 800-Smart-USA number. The dealer I am dealing with sees cars dissappear off his roster all the time after they have a delivery date. He called one time to see what was going on and was told that they were moved on which dealer they went to. But dates don't normally change once configured unless they move up some. They guy I am referring to moved his dealer since he did not even have a DDE. Next day after moving to different dealer, he got a DDE. So, not sure if he would of gotten it the next day or not. But did not hurt, since Round Rock is a high output dealer.
