changes due in September

Just read this article... does anyone know more about these modifications due out starting in September + models? (read on Popular Mechanics website)

"Closer to reality is the new micro-hybrid-drive gasoline Smart with a stop/start system. It will be introduced into all gasoline Smart models with the exception of the tuned-up Brabus version (Europe only), beginning in September.* The new Smart diesel will be introduced in Europe this year, but probably won't make the jump over to the States." —Andrew English

In essence: neither diesel nor 'mhd' are for US! If you want to know more, here is a copy of the official Daimler press release:

Before seeing your post, I posted the more recent thread on the MHD version. According to the article I read (included in the thread) and dated June 26, 2008... the MHD is coming to the U.S. I sure hope that one is correct as I WILL put in a deposit for that baby!

As far as we (US) are concerned, the press release is clear: it says at the bottom "** mhd not available in the USA and Canada"...

Wonder what's different about the MHD that would prevent a simple re-programming of the computer.

I want a CDI Smart to pull behind my Mercedes Sprinter based RV with a ... you guessed it, Mercedes CDI. Can't Smart headquarters see the absolute perfect symmetry of this combination? I am starting a campaign called,
