Changing the color panels on the Smart....Registration issues??

I find it an AWESOME idea that I can change the color of my (future) Smart by switching panels. But doesn't that create a problem with the car registration? I don't know in other countries, but here in the US when you register a car, you register its color too. If I change my car from red to blue, what happens?? Won't I have to re-register it as blue? It sounds ridiculous but how is the US going to handle this?

The Tridion black or silver color is what they use on the FL registration.

I bought a yellow Smart. Since my tridion is black, my registration says my car is black. They explained that was because that's the only exterior of the car that can't change it's color.

I don't see what the difference would be from changing panels, to buying a car then having it painted a different color.

You don't paint it a different color. You change the panels.

I totally understand that the panels are not painted unless they are red, blue or silver

so why would changing the panels on a smart to a different color panel have anything to do with the registration, when you can buy a NON smart car (chevrolet, ford, toyota) one color and then paint it different color, it doesn't change or do anything to the registration.

Understand???????????????

My Scion tC was originially purchased as white:

And now has a full color change to Kandy Apple Red. I've never had a problem with registration or cops questioning it, and believe me, it gets a lot of attention. LoL
