Cheap Bike Rack especially Cabrio

I hope someone has something that can help. Has anyone every used a bike rack not made for a smart car? Something in the trunk mount style. I can buy those models for around 30 to 50 dollars and I only transport my bike when I Mt Bike once a month or When I compete in triathlons a couple times a year. I want a cheap design that will work for the small amount I use it. I know all about the tow hitch and bumper mount but if I was going to spend that much money on something for my car it would be some nice wheels! Anything out there work?

Oh yea, I have a Cabrio which makes it even more difficult!

I don't know if you have much option besides the Tow mount or the Smart Rack. SmartMadness has a good product. Smart also sells an excellent rack.

How's this for an alternative?

Or were you looking to carry the bike on the smart?

Bike Rack

I looked at the Smart factory rack, and, while expensive, I really liked it. However, I already had a 2-bike rack for a 1.25" hitch carrier. I found that having a hitch installed at about $200 (including installation) that would accomodate the rack that I already had was the cheapest solution.

While the hitch carrier seems to sit close to the ground, it has never hit, even on my very steep driveway.

Bike rack under $150

The total cost of my bike rack system was under $120.00.

-SmartMadness tow rods - $90.00
-Yakima Boa bike mount - $30.00 (bought on ebay) sells new for $60.00

So far I've been very happy with the rack setup. Easy and quick mounting/removal, holds my LOOK 586 securely and looks somewhat good.

This is the Cheapest best solution I've seen, and if I can get the Yakima piece off ebay cheaper it's a hundred dollar solution instead of 300 plus! Thanks so much!! You have no problem with the bike swaying and hitting the car or anything?

There's plenty of clearance between the bike and the car and noticed no signs of the bike swaying even at driving high speeds.

btw- make sure you get the larger diameter two rods so it fit the yakima boa style bike mounts.

Can you fit two bikes on there? We have two Trek 1.5 wondering if you think they will fit.

Thanks for your help!
