Check Engine Light, 400-500 miles

All right so I have between 400-500 miles on my smart, approximately 455 miles. I was on my way home from Starbucks and my Check-Engine Light comes on while I'm driving in my neighborhood. I pulled over and checked the manual, which said to see a smart center immediately.

I drove home, and called my smart center. They said if the light is solid orange, then I should wipe out the fuel filler and then screw the cap on as tight as it goes. After that it'll take about 3 rides, waiting until the engine cools between each ride for the light to turn off. If the light was red and flashing I would've had to see the smart center immediately.

So I just got back from my 3rd ride, and the light is still on. I have an appointment tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen, or if anyone has advice.

Thanks!

Also, what are you guys washing your smarts with?

EDIT: Happy Easter

I had the same check engine light (yellow, gas cap wasn't it). Took it in, they replaced some defective parts in the fuel system. See the "Check Engine" thread for the complete description including copies of the service order.

PNDR campaign

Noticed the service order referenced the shifter issue; I guess calling it a campaign sounds better than calling it a recall.

That's because it was a "campaign" and not a full blow recall. I asked to have it checked since my car was a first week delivery for the dealership and they had not been notified of the issue before I took delivery.
