Christmas Wish

So I have been looking at the reservation date to delivery date of all you lucky smart owners. It appears that it is taking about 11 months for reserved smarts to be delivered. Now I know the dealers have said that deliveries should pick up but there are a number of early Smarties (someday to be smart owners) who have yet to receive their new rides. This means that Santa will be bring me my Smart. Hope he can fit it down the chimney. That reminds me I will have to leave some extra special cookies and milk for the big guy.

You really can't form any valid conclusions about delivery times based on early reservations. Remember - those that reserved in March were absolutely GUARANTEED that they would wait at least 9 months because the cars did not start arriving until January. Now that deliveries are taking place the wait will start decreasing and I think that by the 3rd quarter you MIGHT be able to draw some conclusions based on those who reserve starting around then.

This was exactly the argument that I was applying to a thread about this very same subject. Well... it seems that people didnt get it there, but Your thinking is dead on. In that its LOGICAL to think that if you confirmed in August, you shouldn't have to wait as long as those who confirmed in march. There was a guranteed minimum wait like you mentioned. No beyond that minimum, who knows. Because the smart has only been for sale since January. All I know is that you cant form any correlation. The early people that are saying it WILL take the 9+ Months arent taking into consideration that they had that wait and it would be foolish to take that into consideration from January on.

I don't want to sound negative, but I wouldn't count on the wait time decreasing just because they are now shipping Smarts. They have already stated that there will only be a set number of smarts sent to the US no matter how many reserve them. If there are 1500 Smarts a month being delivered to the US, and there are 2000 people adding their names to the reservation list each month, then the wait time will continue to be longer and longer for those that register later.

At this point if you haven't registered or just recently registered and you want a Smart sooner, you should get contact every dealer you can as often as you can and try to get an orphan. Then just place an order for the color panels you really want if you don't like the color of your orphan...it may be worth the $1100 to some people.
