Classic Cars of the Future

Ran across this today in the local paper. Interesting piece - better hang on to your smart~!

Classic Cars of the Future
Classic cars have withstood the test of time and managed to remain a thing of nostalgic value to many. When a car is still modern, you cannot always tell which make or model will go on to become a classic. Like cars of days long passed, some of today's cars will also become classics. It is hard to say which vehicles will last another twenty or thirty years from now. Many automotive resources and professionals have varying opinions on this matter. Of course, only time will really tell. But it is possible to make predictions and form your own opinion.
There are certain names in the automotive industry that always stand out. The Corvette is just one car that everybody seems to know. Though there are many different types of Corvette, the Z06 has a very good chance of being a potential classic. This powerful car comes equipped with a 7.0 L engine that encompasses an amazing 505 horsepower. That is a substantial amount of power for any car. Since many people make the Corvette their collectible car of choice, it is a safe bet that this model might be around for long time.
The Smart car is not one that you may assume will be a classic. It was designed to allow drivers to save money on gas. This car is very small and was designed to be efficient. Many people find it to be very ridiculous while others truly love it. Many might not think this car could possibly be a classic but consider the Volkswagen Beetle or the Mini Cooper. For some reason, many people really love small cars. As more of these vehicles are seen on the road, the chance of them becoming a classic greatly increases. Smart cars are definitely not for everybody but they have begun to find their own niche in the automotive world.
Many came to know the Dodge Charger after it made a significant impact as the main vehicle in the Dukes of Hazzard. When Dodge brought the Charger back in 2005, there were greatly contrasting reviews about it. However, both the Dodge Charger Daytona and Super Bee come in limited numbers and stand a great chance of becoming future classics along with its predecessors. The return of the Hemi engine had many muscle car lovers eager to get their hands on the Charger. In both 5.7 L and 6.1 L engines, this car comes with some impressive power.
Ford has certainly stood their ground in the automotive market. The Mustang Shelby has got to be one of the nicest and most powerful Mustangs on the road. This is a car for the true muscle car lover. Many of the new Shelby's come in limited numbers so they are not all that easy to get your hands on. With 540 horsepower, nobody will laugh when this car is on the road.
If you buy a car hoping that it will be a major classic, you might be disappointed. You should choose the car that you like the best. Classics are unpredictable but it is interesting to see what makes the list.

The thing with that goes hand in hand with classic cars is popularity when new. '57 Chevy - 65 Mustang & the original VW beetle to name a few. Smart will fit into that group when the time comes.

As far as the definition of classic - to me styling is part of it too. IMO, I just can't see a '63 Corvette as a Classic Corvette while a '62 is. Weird...as the '63 was hugely popular when new (I wasn't there, but my dad bought one new as well as my uncle).

Split window coupe, it is most assuredly worth alot more than any '62 is due to the rarity of that '63 model. Also first year for the 300hp 327 in the Vet making it a much faster car and also more desireable than the 62 which I think had the 283 4 barrel and not sure of the HP.

I've got a '63 coupe. pic in my album.

'62 (any pre-63 - solid axle) is still more of a classic in my eyes...Remember, that's just my opinion so it's no big deal.

ps - 62 was 327 too.

Not yet, I see as many Fieros a month as I see smarts (not many).

"jetfuel" - making dinosaurs look like newborns.

When I saw that jet engine picture, all I could think of first was, "Why would anyone Photoshop a giant leather wallet to a jet engine?".

Right now it is so hard to think of a car without chrome as "classic".
