Cold weather mpgs

oh, no, not another MPG thread!

Sorry, I couldn't find one that seemed to fit, but I remember some people complaining about lower mpgs in winter.

My mileage has actually improved over the last few fill ups.

I got 40.4 yesterday. And this is the tank the included the snow driving, storms, tire chains, winder gas and my usual lead-footedness.

How's everybody's else's doing compared to last summer?

Cold air is better for engines

Engines run better and produce more power with cold air. It is more dense, and has a slight effect of supercharging the engine. J Steichen

That is all true, but, here is the big BUT.

I am wondering, if the reformulated gas with more buetain (my spelling sucks) is causing more bang for the buck also.

That is also another reason for the Cheaper gas everyone. Fall and Winter gas is cheaper made due to less heat and trying to maintain the constant pressure. No clue why, I am no mechanic. Just stating what I read.

If you let it idle and don't drive until the interior warms up, your milage will be much less. it all depends on your driving habits in the winter compared to summer driving. As I see it, take what you can get.

The Envoy is getting better mpgs during the winter season.

During warmer weather: 13-16 city 16-18 hwy

Winter weather 15 city 19-20 hwy

It's not much of an improvement, but it seems that cars work a little less as hard during cold weather.

Driving the same route, I've dropped from a pretty consistent 44 (with lots of a/c use) to around 40.

My MPG went down when the temperature did. I tried regular and it went down from the time I had used regular before. I will go back to using premium since I realize it was the temperature and not the gas. It is averaging 30 degrees Fahrenheit here in central NJ.

Just got back from a 2 week trip.Went a total of 4102 miles, used 105.189 gallons of gas for a total of only 38.9964 miles per gallon. The temps ranged from 9 degrees to 57 degrees. Didn't notice any difference in mileage at the time. Will know more this summer, only got ours on December 1st.

I hate to burst your bubbles, but when the ambient temperature is 30 to 40 degrees below zero, the Smart doesn't really do that well.
