The color red smart - metallic

I ordered the metallic red. I don't have mine yet, but here's my question. I've seen all colors except red in person. All of the pictures of red smarts appear to be a nonmetallic red (sort of a fire engine red.)

Is the red color actually metallic, or not?

Yep tomatoey red and that's why I selected blue metallic plus an extra set of panels which I plan to paint a true candy apple red. Here's to a real red & black combo (at least for me). No offense to those who like the original red from smart.

Has anyone tried painting the panels. I love the idea of a true candy apple red with clearcoat. How well will this work on the plastic panels?

Its my understanding (and from looking at them it appears correct) that all the metallic cars are painted. Only the solid colors are color impregnated into the panels.

Shoudl be easy enough to paint with the proper prep and adhesion promotors for plastic panels. Unless you are painting it yourself dont stress it and just make sure you get a good body shop who knows how to paint plastic panels (remember fieros and saturn have been doing plastic panels for awhile so shops should know how to handle it)

The metallic red shows up in direct sunlite if you get down close to it at an angle. Yea, I know, why bother, but the sparkle is definitely there. Wash it, you'll notice.

But I think it odd how in photos is looks like a tru red but in person it is the tomato soup color.

Any photo-geeks out there that can weigh in?
