#77 only withstands 110 degrees. I still may try it. I see the dealer about 3- or 4 months from now but I believe I can somehow do a better job.

I'm sure a lot of us feel the same way . I mean if it came stock and started to fall down then they may try and do the same 'ol fix and it too will eventually fail.

If the above doesn't quite hack it then drilling and bolting it down with some big washers comes into the picture or try GEARHEAD's idea of trying to buy, make or steal some urethane adhesive.

I possibly could show up at one of these windshield places and beg.

Where do you get DEI thermal shielding?

Using Old smart's reference to McMaster-Carr and Mr Jet's suggestion of red RTV we find that the red RTV is a High Temp sealant good for -60 to 400deg. McMaster-Carr page 3357. Always did like the color red.

By this Mon. or Tues. I'll pull the trigger on this project and will report back outcome.

On hand are some GM TRIM PANEL RETAINERS. Big (1.5 in.) round top - they look like the largest roofing nail made except they're plastic or vinyl (about $3) . I'll be looking at drilling sites shortly. Just one or two of these installed should take care of the prob. Maybe.

Currently high 80's and thousands of lowcountry mosquitos are keeping me away from shade tree auto repair.

..Commander..I will personally stay away from the drilling process...just because the simple action of one or more holes is an invitation for corrosion to start to develop after the barrier coating is jeopardized and bare metal is exposed...please try any of the adhesive mentioned above before drilling.....just me looking after you...

jetfuel.....red RTV is good stuff

First of all I'm so thankful that your (jetfuel's) car wasn't behind me on the TAIL of the DRAGON. I wouldn't be here now, or what's left of me, to work on this project.

just kidding

Okay - I'll give this one more shot and head to the auto parts store for some gasket stuff with this McMaster-Carr page on Loctite, etc. in my hand.

Communist red right? Red it is.

I'm with Dave777...

Many of us here are certainly capable of performing this repair but it is an issue that should be brought up to the dealer, not just fixed in the back yard. Granted it is not a big deal but could become a bigger deal if it starts tangling in other stuff back there and creating other failures.

I would take it back to the dealer for sure...car is not that old yet to be having those kinds of problems.

You made me look at mine. There are some studs mounted back there and the padding is held up by plastic washer type fasteners that thread to the studs. I see at least three back in there.

...correct...3 wing nut washers ...sides and middle...but the padding still pulls loose in between allowing hot air to get under it...

More Better Thoughts and Teachings

My fellow Carounians...and all others.

I'll get the gasket stuff tomorrow-Fri.

From the Commanders Special Dictionary:

A Carounian is one who attended the first OutSMARTING the Dragon held last month.
