Configuring NOW? 2009 or 2010?

recently i asked smart usa if anyone were to configure today, knowing that the DDE is saying your delivery is Sept-Nov 2009, would that make your car a 2009 or a 2010? also, since manufacturers are often changing colors and options, how can someone 'configure' a car today that won't be assembled for several months later?

here's the reply i received:

"Dear smart Enthusiast All manufacturers undergo model year changes in the third of fourth quarter of each calendar year. In the event that a reservation holder is scheduled to receive their vehicle in 2009 or 2010, the reservation holder will be offered the opportunity to configure their fortwo with the future year model's options."

guess that means that you may not get what your initially order, but at least you will be asked to 'reconfigure' should your choices be affected by any changes made by the manufacturer.

again, seems fair to me.

Don't count on it being the same price either. Each year the price goods up regardless of when you reserved or confirmed.

I asked smartUSA the same question their response similar:

Dear smart Enthusiast, Thank you for your interest in smart USA! All manufacturers undergo model year changes in the third or fourth quarter of each calendar year. If your ETA falls during this time period, smart USA will invite you to re-configure your vehicle to add on the 2009 factory installed options. If you have any other questions or concerns, please contact us via email or by phone at 1.800.smartusa. Thank you for your interest in smart USA. You will be hearing from us soon!
