consumer report review

I was wondering if anyone had read the recent consumer report review on the smart car. I have been thinking of buying a smart but that review was really scathing. According to the review there is nothing good to be said for the smart. they hated it inside and out.
Does anyone have any thoughts on the review?

There is another thread on the report here somewhere, but the short answer is that they should stick to rating toasters.

The smart car is not made in Japan, therefor consumer reports gives it a bad review.

Those morons raved and raved about the geo metro, it did everthing great but they dogged out the H3, said it gets bad gas mileage at 20mpg hwy? Do you think? Why didnt they dog out the metro because it cant tow a trailer filled with 4 wheelers or it cant go through snow a foot deep?

yep, CR is certainly not on my list of worthwhile opinions on cars.

Even their so called tracking of issues on products is suspect to me now, I find real world experience doesn't nec reflect their records and I wonder where they even get that info now and what factors are omitted.

I read the Consumer Reports article from November 2008 re: the smart car.

They discuss the transmission and the ride, also interior cargo space.

They don't seem to discuss gas mileage nor safety much.

Consumer Reports paints the smart as "unpractical".

There was also another thread on here about the same thing about a week or two ago. Not that I mind rereading about how much CR is on crack when it comes to car rating, but I had what I thought was a good response on it.
