Consumer Reports, aggregated ...

I'm afraid our little car is in for a rough ride at Consumer Reports.

The Aug issue in my mail today says, (among other not so nice things) "The ride is horrendous and broken urban pavement, this cars natural habitat, pummels occupants mercilessly".

" The transmission shifts in an uncomfortable way, with pauses and heaves between gears." Heaves ???

I have to somewhat agree with the above findings, but of course the article goes on, and knocks handling and engine noise. At over 11k on our car I do not see what they are talking about here at all.

No point of knocking CR, as it will not diminishing their influence with the car buying public. When the full road test report hits, it is sure to lose sales for Smart, and hurt our resale. A2Jack

A lady I work with, who knows I'm probably going to get mine soon, presented me with a copy today at work, as she pronounced, "They say it's hard to steer!" ... I guess that's what impressed her the most about the article. I started reading it, and was amazed when the 2nd sentence claimed the smart looked like an ostrich egg on wheels. Any rational person would immediately realized from this opening barrage that this reviewer simply did not like the car at a gut level and any further reading of his opinion would be a waste of time.

No offense, but I did not buy it to sell it!

I think word-of-mouth will outweigh CR's opinion.

Nor did we. Don't hold your breath, "word of mouth" says it will be smashed flat with an SUV.

all the Consumer Reports info I read before my purchase (May 2008) basically provided "no info"..it seems they were examining a Canadian Smart before May 08...

No not this time. The old report was on the old Canadian CDI. This report is new and on our cars.

Yuh gotta wonder who the traitor was that sold them one.

Road and Track was not kind either...but who cares? If you want it and you are happy with it, who cares what some mouth breathing reviewer who probably drives a Hummer thinks of it. Maybe fewer people will have interest in the car then and it will remain more exclusive. I have never given much creedence to CR as they have often slammed vehicles that I have had great success with. When the car gets here, the only review that will matter will be my own, and if I am not pleased I'll dump it on some poor fool willing to take it off my hands.

who cares. No one pays attention to CR anymore. Look at news stands most have dropped them.

Pretty close to my attitude. And, if I keep it for 12-18 months I might be lucky enough to break even ... considering supply & demand, and what they're selling for on eBay 'today'.
Might swap it for a 2010 even if I do like the 2008.
