This post really grinds my smart gears.

1. Read the date of that report. It clearly says December 2006. How can CR write review a MY 2008 smart in 2006?

2. And it's ludicrous NOT ludacris.

Arghh......

Consumer Reports have long employed questionable criteria in reviewing motor vehicles. Their reporting is also extremely biased in a politically liberal direction.

In the late 1970s, I read their report on the Vespa and Lambretta motor scooters. In many ways, the Lambretta, with its strong tubular steel frame, was the better machine. However, Consumer Reports saw fit to label it “Not Acceptable” because of a “serious safety flaw”. When the Lambretta was driven by a very bulky six-foot-four-inch man, the handlebar would contact his knees during sharp turns, leading to a loss of stability. This test driver was, of course, larger and taller than the factory recommended maximum for a rider. The Lambretta was, and is, perfectly safe for its intended riders.

This is but one of countless examples of idiotic motor vehicle reviewing by Consumer Reports. I would never base a decision regarding the purchase of a motor-car or motorcycle on their reports.

I wouldn't say liberal, more like stupid, lacking common sense. Liberal people actually love the smart, after all it's the greenest car on the road.

Conservatives love SMART too. You do not have to be a liberal to be green.

Just because I am a noodge that way, Ludacris is a musical artist and Ludicrous is something "so obvously absurd as to be laughable" per Webster's II New College Dictionary.

I wouldn't say it's the greenest, but certainly one of the greenest. The Honda hybrid gets 45MPG and the Aptera gets 300MPG

They're pretty "green" if take out of consideration the environmental destruction caused by the manufacture of the batteries they use....

If you define "green" as the least environmental impact from cradle to grave the smart is at the top. If you purely go by fuel economy then yes the hybrids are better. The Aptera doesn't count as it is only available in California, is really classed as a motorcycle, and isn't mass produced.

What does how it's classed have to do with being green? Yes it is currently only sold in california, but that will be addressed soon and nothing is stopping anyone from buying one from another state. It also will be mass produced in the next couple of months so that's not an issue either. All we're saying is that there are a lot of green vehicles on the market, and more to come (like the Chevy Volt) and the Smart, while being near the top of the list is not the best. It currently makes the most sense, but that will change very soon as technology progresses
