Convertables in the winter

Does anyone have any experience with a cabriolet in wintry climates. Our dealer in Minnesota just called me about an orphan. I just am not sure about how it would be up here in the north. Help, please!!!

Winter in a cabrio...

...was/is just fine. I'm assuming you are asking about the cabrio top in the closed position.

Truthfully, mine is plenty warm - really no difference in that area compared to the hard-top Passion - and thanks to the excellent cabin heater (and my heated seats!), I've seen no problem. It was just fine a month ago as well when I drove it at -10 degrees.

Some owners have reported a 'slight' difference in audible wind/road noise through the cabrio roof, but IMO it's very minor and nothing to dissuade one from getting a 'cab.'

Let us know your decision and what you end up getting. I was just in the Bloomington smart center today and they only had one or two 'possible' orphans - so act fast if possible. ;)

Thanks Fred...I had requested a Passion and had never really considered a cabrio....however I confess that it is very tempting. Glad you have had a good experience. How has the car been overall? Did you use the stock tires this winter?

We purchase a Cabrio from the Bloomington dealer, no problems we live in the Hayward area. We travel down a 2 mile snow mobile trail to get home. It's all ice and snow and we don't have a problem. Good Luck

...great! Now issues whatsoever and the stock tires have been fine so far. I understand all the posted concerns and such (pro and con), but for now I just can't see spending more $$ for something that - for me - may only show small improvement. To each his own and it's certainly dependent on your typical daily driving route(s) and such.

Overall, I've been enjoying the car a lot despite the end-of-winter arrival timing and less-than-ideal break in weather/road conditions. Not a problem...although I would have preferred to have had dry roads and warmer weather. Wouldn't we all! Ha! I have run the top down twice when it's got above 40 degrees - then run the heated seats and cabin heater for a "warm envelope" - it's been fun for sure!

I ran my top down on the way home from pickup on hiway @ 75mph. 26 degrees not cold at all heater on but not cranked.(it's actually less windy with the top all the way down than it is any where else) Drove home last night in the snow storm that dropped 6-14 inches here in WI. No problem. Oh yah and back to work this morning. It was actually a lot fun, bucking the snow drifts.
