Convertible or regular

I'm up to the part of configuring my smart car (got the e-mail today).

I'm trying to decide if I should get the convertible or the regular version.

Any opinions on the convertible version?

Thanks!

I wanted the cabrio. I couldn't justify the $3K price difference to myself. Soft tops, particularly here in Florida, have to be replaced every five years or so. I also question the rigidity of the tridion cell with the center part over the doors removed. Having said that, if I had it do to over again, I almost certainly would have gotten the cabrio. Go for it.

The tridion cell is not compromised by the cabrio door opening because of the addition of the roll bar at the rear of the cell.

We just thoroughly enjoy the versatility of the top and what's not to like about a top that you can open with your key fob?

I love it, and I'm in upstate NY. It's great for those hot days when you want to air out the car, or what not. Of course, the rag top was one of the top 3 reasons I bought the smart to start with, so...

I think it also depends in part on how you plan to use it. Do you have a garage? Will you be parking it outside a lot? If so, a hard top is probably the way to go. But if you have a place to park it thats covered, I'd go for the cabrio.

Per the discussion on fog lights. . .second thoughts are expensive when it comes to the Smart. If you are even thinking about the Cabrio, I'd say get it. If you find you prefer the non-cabrio, you can always sell it and pick up an orphan or swap with someone who just got a Passion and wishes it was a Cabrio.

Moral of the story - you probably can't go wrong given the demand for Smarts right now.

If you think people gawk at your smart coupe, just wait till they see the top go down.

Cabrio all the way!
