This badging stuff brings up a circumstance that I very aware of. In 1973 Colin Chapman decided to give up building the Lotus Seven himself, because of his many other irons on the fire at the time (Formula 1 included). He legally turned over, on license, the complete continuation of building the Seven to Graham Nearn and Caterham Cars, Ltd. Chapman/Lotus even prescribed the new badging to indicate the continuation with the colors and round-cornered triangle. (Birkin, Westfield need-not apply.) Examples:
But then it happened in the US, for licensing reasons, many Caterhams have been re-badged as pre- ’73 Lotus, with questionable dates-of build. But, yup, the Caterham’s DNA is really Lotus. Not long ago, Nearn sold Caterham to those who now own Lotus; the two marques are now as closely related as they ever have been.
Make of it what you will.
