I'll take November through February, gladly! It's sad to have to run the A/C so I can tolerate putting the roof back most of the year. We're finally within MY time of year ... low tonight around freezing at the coast, cooler inland. High tomorrow not expected to reach 60°.
About the frost, yuckmoon, that appears to be frozen rain. Frost, by definition, is 'the solid deposition of water vapor from saturated air'. Cool looking though! (pun intended)
Freezing rain! When this stuff shows up, you don't want to be out driving even with snow tires or chains or an angel on your shoulder. It's a telecommute day for sure.
Great pics, Yuckmoon. We should have a smart art gallery.
Suze, note the difference between frozen rain and freezing rain. Freezing rain is supercooled liquid until it hits a solid surface. If rain freezes on a surface some time after it has fallen due to the temperature dropping, then it is frozen rain. Picky, picky, picky, I know, LOL Interesting photo, did you take it? Where was it taken?

Eee-gads, NCC - are you a meteorologist? We get what the weather peeps call freezing rain and I take it to mean rain that freezes solid when it hits a surface, coating everything in a sheet of ice. Not sure about frozen rain - is that like sleet? I swear, before I moved to the PNW I never knew there were so many words for wet stuff coming from the sky.
Nah, I didn't take the pic, I snatched it from a google search. But I do have some pics of ice coating my house, car and trees. Winter temps around here can hover above and below freezing in the winter, so ice is the result whatever we call it.
Now you go and introduce another meteorological term, hehe. Sleet is generally a mixture of ice pellets (clear or white) and frequently liquid water. You got the freezing rain right. Supercooled rain, colder than 32°, freezing on contact with a solid surface. I don't think that's what yuckmoon had, she said it rained and then the temperature dropped. It landed as liquid and then later froze. That kind of precipitation couldn't be as destructive as freezing rain, which can bring down power lines, trees, etc.
I am not a meteorologist, although I've had a decades' long interest and took a few basic college courses in it. Stick my neck out like this and someone more knowledgeable is likely to kick me for it. However, I believe I said it right.

Spock, you are exactly right. In fact, if you want to see something cool put a bottle of purified water in the freezer for about an hour. Maybe less. Make sure its not disturbed, then shake it. It will start to freeze before your eyes.
Thank you, jefferios. But, now you've got me reconsidering. The photo Suze posted showed the results of freezing rain. But, according to you, "since it is not raining it would be called frozen rain"
If the aftermath of a freezing rain event is called frozen rain, then my description of frozen rain is too restrictive.
Never too old to learn.
