Could not wait....

I've heard nothing from my dealer or smart since I reserved aug 2007. I got fed up and bought a new 2008 Toyota yaris a/c and c/d radio with mp-3 and fog lights. I paid $11,200 after much haggling.
Took it on a 460 mile trip to my dad's and got 41.3 going and 39.8 coming back. (75-80mph)
Have 4 seats and a liftback. I will still be miffed I didn't get my smartie but I guess they have so many orders they don't care about me.
Who else got tired of waiting not knowing anything???

Can't blame you, plus it sounds like you got a great deal

Orphan list is the way to go for me

I think you got a great deal and who knows, the Yaris might serve you better than a Smart. I think most magazine reviews would favor the Yaris over the Smart in terms of what you get for the money. However, with that said, you will miss out a lot on the 'fun' factor-people waving and gawking at you and all the conversations about your car-not that this would be that important to you.....

The Smart is actually a fun car to drive. I love the paddles. I love the way the steering wheel feels in my hand. It's almost sporty. Overall, I give it thumbs up so far, except for the 'check engine' light, which came on yesterday.

I got tired of waiting too...

I got tired of waiting as well. My Dad bought a a new Yaris a few weeks ago and loves it, I couldn't live without a big sunroof or leather seats so got a mini cooper last weekend.
oh my god, it is such a fun little car
Got it used still under warranty tweaked out with all of the options, so didn't feel like a sacrifice not waiting for the smart and all of the goodies that would've come with.
maybe next year when the Smart comes in, I will decide to get it, but for now, the mini is an awesome sporty ride.
Good luck to everyone with the patience to wait

I would consider the MINI, but I just can't live with the reduced MPG... HWY it does a good job, but not around town... I think its listed at 23MPG???

You gotta do whats right for you. The Smart is not for everone....but when it is it's fantastic. Me...it's perfect....travel most times by myself...kids all moved out or away at college. I like the funky look and having M-B parents is a help too. Good luck!
