crappy clear coat?

I did not get around to washing my smart for 2-3 weeks - now there is all this crap embedded in the clear coat, black and rust colored spots, which no longer can be removed by just washing the car. Yes, I know I can get it off with a clay bar, but it pisses me off that I can leave my Honda unwashed for months without having this issue.

my question to the gang: is this a problem with smart in general, or is this a problem with self colored panels only? I have a panda, so clear coat only.

I am also wondering if the issue with the passion rims that some of you have complained about is the same problem

I have never been on a car forum where every one is happy with the paint. That being said, I do not think anything is wrong with the paint.

Packetandy, last winter I went much longer between washings than you describe and never encountered a problem (other than a dirty car.)

This could have something to do with where you park your car, what environmental hazards it has been exposed to and whether it has been waxed or had some other kind of surface treatment done since purchase.

If you feel the clear coat was uncured and soft, I suggest you visit your dealership and have it evaluated.
