I agree 95% of the people have been positive , but there are always a few social miscreants who take joy in trying to be negative...their lot in life not mine. I'm glad no one has been pulling my door handles..yet. I'll have to get one of those old bumper stickers that says " You toucha my car....I breaka you face"

Garage
I get the doors being opened at car shows at lot. Bad as on my street rod I have "dummy handles" that are there just for looks as the doors pop open via remote control. So far I haven't had too many of the waiting people though we've been hunted down in restaurants and asked questions while we're eating twice. Same restaurant and within 5 minutes of each other. Had a van I was following this morning turn around to ask questions when I turned into a convenience store. Lot of that stuff and 99% has been positive.

Adorable

smartie was called "adorable" by a grown man, yesterday. He said he never thought he would ever call a car, adorable, but smartie certainly deserved it.

The comments have changed in the last couple of weeks. Now, it's "everyone should have a smart in their garage" (that was from a guy selling driveway repair, who stopped his truck and talked to us about fixing the driveway, then admitted that he really wanted to see the smart) and many folks saying you were "smart" to get this car. Yesterday, a MB owner at the gas station took photos of the smart, said he'd seen them at the MB dealer and was headed off to look for a 4 cylinder so that he could park the MB. Also, many questions about where can I get one? It's as if the curiosity has changed to envy. Love it!

I'll have to agree with that.

Having said that, people who have asked me about my smart have done so, so far, whithin the bounds of standard courtesy.

Feeling very smart, actually.

Anyway, I've been amazed at the lack of concern for fuel economy that people have shown since the 70's when it seemed to matter for a few years. I started following the Smart several years ago and finally got on an email interest list. Then last May I made my reservation. I never expected my delivery to be so timely relative to fuel prices.

People in the USofA just don't get it. Change your driving habits now.
The price of gas will never be what it was just a year ago. This is not going away.
If the usa would have taken steps back during tricky dick's days we would have been prepared for what is happening to gas prices today.
It's still a business. Supply and demand. As long as there is a demand the price will stay high. If everyone would just do the most simplest of actions (like slowing down) the demand would drop. But no we still don't get it. I still see people with big SUVs’ and monster pick-up trucks driving like nuts, just to get to the next red light.
And now because some of us were smart enough to at least take a step in the right direction, by ordering a more fuel efficient vehicle we are getting, in some cases, badgered
People need to wake up!!
Well said I agree with you statement...A lot of people still actually believe gas prices will go down soon....lol. All we can do is continue to set the example.

I know I may see at the Varsity meet 6-5-08 but man I may have to take you up on that deal. (smiling)

The response to my little smart has been overwhelmingly positive.
However, yesterday a misfit in a huge pickup drove past me in the oncoming lane as I was at a red light. He screamed "FAGGOT" at me.

??? He must have JUST come from the gas station, eh?

Curious People

The first was a nice couple who walked up to our booth at IHOP and wanted to know if we were the ones who drove up in the smartcar. We hadn't even received our food yet, so we told them everything we could about it, and they thanked us and left.
Then there were a few of the typical remarks......wouldn't drive that on the freeway, if you ever get into a crash you're done for, is that electric?
Had two women at work checking it out in the parking lot when I walked out. When I pressed the key fob and unlocked it, I think it startled them a little. Then when they looked around and saw me walking out, they were really surprised. Since I'm 6'3', 285 lbs, they said "This is YOURS??" I said, "Yes, would you like to see inside and sit in it?" One did.......and loved it! She couldn't believe the amount of space inside.
Then I had a guy ask me "IS THAT A NAME BRAND?" I told him, "It's made my Mercedes!" I wanted to say "TONKA" or "MATTEL!"
I was sitting in it the other night at work talking to my wife, having just had my windows tinted that day so I COULDN'T roll the windows down. Next thing I know, I've got a women's face pressed up against the driver's window. Then.........she saw me inside! ;) She SCREAMED, JUMPED BACK, and then 'kinda danced around, apologizing. I would have opened the door to talk to her, but I was on the phone (and on my 15 minute break), so I just let her go. I'm thinking she may have had to go home and change her "undies" anyway! ;)
Most of the people have been really nice & friendly in asking questions! What really scares me is the people who get so engrossed in looking that they quit paying attention to what they're doing. I came very, very close to getting T-BONED at a 4-way stop Saturday by a full-size van. She didn't even slow down.........until AFTER she realized that she'd run the STOP SIGN and almost CREAMED ME!! Then she stopped and threw up her hands like, "I'm SO SORRY!" Now.......THAT scares me! THAT would've HURT!! So......from now on I'll just be sitting at the 4-ways until I'm CERTAIN everyone is stopping like they're supposed to!!
