what do you want on a European car? They don't have cup holders, it was grafted on so we wouldn't complain about "no cupholders". They work fine for shuttling drinks from fast food to the office at lunch but yes are impractical for use while driving but shouldn't you be actually driving?

This friggin bird is smoother than those in the botched robbery videos

Alternate cup holder

Also, I have the original 2-cup holder sitting in a box (collecting dust) since I had the large cup holder item installed. I didn't realize that thing replaced the 2-cup holder and gave me a different 2-cup holder with extension swing arm.
You might want something like this.. It's from a Saab aftermarket catalog. It's not gorgeous, but it might fit on the smart map pocket on the door. It just straddles the 'wall' of the map pocket and a screw holds it tight.

Anthony thanks for the cup accessory idea on the door. Unfortunately, I don't think it will work for my smart because I find that area very tightly designed and not available for additional items to be mounted. I'll just purchase a better case of right sized bottled water. I still use the extended cup arm (I don't swing it out) and I love the extra set of holders the seat adjustment handles provide. Regina

I too can see the segull clip and I came across that clip somewhere else on the web last year. Those birds are smart!
