Ever since I reserved, a day hasn't gone by when I haven't said to myself, "I want my car." While I've been impatient at times, I've always rationalized that the 10-12 month wait would be good timing for when I need to sell my existing car and get the smart.
I turned down an orphan because I kept my faith in the 10-12 months we'd heard over-and-over again on here and from dealers. With one day, we've from 10-12 months, to 18-20. Had I known that, had smart USA been up-front at the get-go, I would have taken the orphan. Now, I'm being pushed out of the window for when I need the car, and it looks like I won't get one at all.
Seeing the DDE results, I realize my enthusiasm is dead. How can I be enthusiastic over something over something that I won't see?
Propes...what date spread did they give you? Nevermind...Jan-Mar '09. That sux man. You gotta hop on that Orphan bandwagon....make a few calls..stop by and give 'em a smile. Ya know? Go hug a floor model it'll make you feel better.

I hear you, but being that I chose to get an orphan, I can say that it was anti-climatic. The anticipation was more exciting than the actual car itself once I drove it on the highway. Of course I will be looked upon as a heretic by many of my fellow members, But as the story goes . . . .
. . . . some people see the Emperor with his clothes and one or two see him naked.
I'm not knocking the car, but merely stating that many will be disappointed once taking delivery.

You're not liking it? Can you share why? I've just about convinced myself to shed my worries and dive head first into scary unknown car land and ignore my gut feeling to jump into Scion/Toyota security blankie land...

That even though that security blanket is tempting, neither one of those cars will not come close to giving you the sensations that driving a Smartie will!
I can wait, good things come etc..........don't really need the car& this will put off having to figure out which vehicle goes & insurance, etc, but 15-17 months does seem excessive, criminey. Any of the domestics would be putting on extra shifts, working weekends, etc if they had this kind of backlog....We still want it our way**red/black passion with gauges, & thats all. I expect the dealers are going to load the orphans up with kinds of "profit makers."

I agree with you. Completely. I just don't want to go into debt with a car loan on this thing and then have the company fall flat on it's face and me be stuck with the car and loan because it loses all it's value. I'm not saying I want to buy the car just to sell it, but I do tend to turn my cars over at most after 3 years... This one may hold my attention longer, but it's not likely... There's bound to be something else I'll want by then.
Right now, all anyone hears are the fanatics and the bone heads... it's either the most genius perfect car ever or the worst tuna can abomination ever conceived by man. Who knows how the general public will ever feel about this car...
I guess I could ***** and complain.... but the true for me is, I want the smart, not a toyota or a scion, or anything else. I am in this for a smart. So, I get to put more monies aside, and they get to work out all the bugs. Don't get me wrong, I wanted the car yesterday....
If penske gets MB to increase production numbers, then I may get it earlier then oct - dec 08!
