I'm in the same boat, timeframe-wise, and I would've agreed with you about preferring a 2009 model... IF they had addressed some issues. If the transmission was different and shifted smoother; if the rearview mirror was larger and the seats not in the way as much; if the engine was different and required a lower octane gas; et cetera. However, since the only changes are minor and cosmetic, I'm happy to be locked in for a 2008 model, since the only real difference in the 2009 model will be more money extracted from my wallet.

Yes, they are the last four digits.

The reservation number that came from "noreply@smartusa.com" called «Your smart USA Reservation» is the moment your $99 deposit was entered into IB's system.
I.e.
the number: 0345511601 or 03|45|51|1601
03 = 30 seconds
45 = 54 minutes
51 = 15 hours
(all Pacific time)
into the 1601st day after Jan 1, 2004
The program started March 19, 2007 with #...1173
