Dealer pricing??

I was at the dealer where I am about to take delivery of my Smart. Anyway I couldnt help notice that there were quite a number of Smarts available. So I was thinking has anyone that has purchased recently paid less than the configured price? Is there any haggling with the dealer over price or are the prices fixed?

Thanks.

I paid '08 price for my '09, but that was because it arrived in '08 & that seems to be company policy. Other than that, the company seems to be sticking to their guns that they will not discount.

I've seen as many as 20+ fortwos on dealer lots recently. I find it hard to imagine that they won't be discounting these cars sometime in the near future as the economy spirals down.

I shaved a few bucks off from what the dealer wanted, yes... Much as I wanted a Fortwo, I could've just as easily walked away and waited for my reservation car to come in, and the sales mgr. at the dealership knew it, so we were both ready to talk.

I settled for a bit more car than I wanted (I ordered a coupe, not a cabrio), he settled for a bit less money than he wanted, everyone's happy.

I doubt they will have much problem selling them. The Round Rock dealer can't keep them in their possesion. They keep getting other dealers from around the country asking them to take them off their hands. They have 20 available right now and probably have those gone in less then a week. Dec they sold 387 total smarts. They have taken over 20 from the AZ dealer already this year alone. And they got a call a few weeks back asking to take some more. Don't think with their new orphan program, it will be a problem.

Dec they sold 387 total smarts. They have takes over 50 from the AZ dealer already this year alone. And they got a call a few weeks back asking to take some more. Don't think with their new orphan program, it will be a problem. Someone comes into RR dealer, says Ok, I want one. They walk them over to the computer, get their Reservation going. Then, they say, what colors and what not. Then they look around at other dealers, call them up, and put it on the next truck to RR. Simple and fast. In two weeks, someone has a smart and it was no long waiting period.
Sounds like a sensible approach. They don't seem to be doing that where I am - unless I'm missing something.

It must vary from city to city. Here in Denver I heard a while back that they rarely ever had any orphans available, but last night just for fun I did a Denver Craigslist search for Smart, and among the ones available were 4 or 5 brand new ones being advertised by Smart Denver...

On Craigslist???

Yes, they seem to do that here as well. Last month I saw a couple of orphans from my Smart Center on Craiglist.

Maybe I will just ask for a discount on some floor mats.
