Dealerships expanding for Smart Car franchise

"Mercedes-Benz of Memphis will be one of 17 Southeastern dealers selected as a franchisee for the Mercedes Smart Car, a new concept car that will be introduced in August 2006. As a result, Mercedes' current 41,521-square-foot dealership will be expanded to house the 25,000-square-foot Smart Car franchise.

Cost estimates are still being worked out, but the project could cost $2 million-$3 million." Gunter Stephan, president of the dealership said 300,000 of the $12,000 Smart Cars will be sold in North America.
