Droosan, Well thought out with a logical conclusion. A Smart as the primary means of transportation is not the best choice out there. However, for a fun ride around town it would be hard to beat.

Believe me I wanted to like the car. It’s just not a practical purchase for me.

I decided against it. So after getting my configuration Email and thinking hard about the purchase, I couldn’t in good conscience buy it.




1. Requires premium fuel.
2 High center of gravity. So darts around in high winds.
3. 1.5 hours to dealer for service. Mercedes has spotty record for reliability.
4. Two year warranty.
5. Only two seats. I need to transport 3 people on occasion.
6. Want a true Manual transmission.
7. Can be put on its side by 3 strong drunk guys.
8. Rough ride over bumps.
9. Two different size tires front too back so tires can’t be rotated...
10. NO CRUSE Control!
11. No tilt wheel.
12. Poor view out the rearview mirror, due to seatbacks.

So I decided to get a Scion Xd.

Surely if you seriously considered getting a smart then you knew about the above, it's not like you went down there and they said "oh by the way, there are a few things we should tell you about the car, first off it only has 2 seats".

For its shape and dimensions, it has quite a low centre of gravity.
This has nothing to do with driving in the wind, it's because the car is quite light and has large flat sides. If you open both windows it isn't affected (obviously not recommended if it's raining).

Well, the Scion Xd won best of the year and best small car from MotorWeek. So, I guess that is not a bad choice...
