California return policy is only on used cars and must be paid for in advance plus restocking fees when returned. Unless stated other wise for example CarMax offers a 5 day on their contract at no cost and so do a couple other dealers. Buyer beware the dealers are professionals at this. They do it everyday and the consumer does it every few years... your on the losing end.

If I was to wait until my DDE said, almost a year, I would have spent around $6000 in Gas.

I paid for the extra "goodies" that the dealer put on, in the end I am saving money and I have the car NOW!!

go have fun in it!!
does this mean you were driving 2500 a month, or 5,000 a month?
I think it is the later, which I just cannot imagine.

Look at it from a different angel. It sounds like your fortwo is just about like mine and I paid close to the same thing.

A yarus or Fit would have been cheaper, but they don't get quite as good of gas mileage and they don't have all the cool stuff on it. I almost got a Mazda 3 which had a few more options than the Yarus or Fit but didn't get as good as gas mileage as them. And the dealer at the time offered me the Mazda 2008 for $17K.

I look at it like this. The fortwo does get better gas mileage and has more/cooler gadgets on it. None of the above cars that I looked at had heated leather seats, sinsores for the light and rain, Nav system and of cours the mega cutness factor. I knew going into this venture that mine was going to coast way more than 11K. I think I got a bargen on mine.

It all comes down to what the car is worth to you. If you're happy, drive on with a smile on your face and a song in your heart because you got a Smart.

(sorry for the bad rhyme)

We paid $18K something out the door after taxes for our Passion. No extended warranty no lojack no chip thingy but did get HuperOptix tint and floor mats. This after waiting for our car. Lojack here is $600 (AZ). Our ophans here in AZ usally have aftermarket paint on them and wind up costing $23K or more.

You're getting some good advise from experienced orphan owners. I waited for the car I ordered and here's what it cost:

$13,590
$645 Destination Charge
$850 Comfort Package
$160 Anti-Theft Alarm System
$120 Cockpit Clock & Rev Counter
$110 Fog Lamps
______
$15,475

$45 Document Fee
$1358.00 California Sales Tax 8.75%
$101 California License
$64 California Registration Fees
$7 California Tire Fee
______
$17,050.00

With all the dealer extras and extended service contract on your car, it sounds like you price is about average price for an orphan.

I agree I bought an orphan and paid extra for the privledge of it. But I haven't regreted it for a second. I love my car and am so glad that I didn't have to wait at least 18 months( in Dallas)

I think it is the later, which I just cannot imagine.

I go about 4-5000 miles a month covering Northern CA and Northern NV.

from Redding to Stockton to Fallon to Elko and all points between and around.

Sometimes loaded up with tools, sometimes just me and the breifcase!

Considering the warranty I was offered was $2000 and less coverage, you aren't doing bad. That seems to be a fair price, and I had to wait nearly a year for mine.
