Mercedes does make a pretty safe car. So does Volvo, Ford, Saab and a host of other manufacturers. They also make cars that get poor mileage, and that's been known to be 'just horrible for the environment' according to the greenies.
Apparently you missed the tone of sarcasm to that post.

Got it for ya: Toyota: 60-0 123 ft., Honda: 60-0 113 ft., Chevrolet: 107 ft.
Hmm, where did you find these on the manufacturer's websites? Please, link me... apparently I'm looking in the wrong place.

Probably because most websites don't update as often as forums do.
Again... you missed my sarcasm

Hmm. Seems like it might be a challenge, but, alas, no: Ford makes a OHC engine that makes a goodly amount of torque down low, and also seems to have quite a bit of gusto at highway speeds. Heck, Saleen uses the engine in their S281. Supercharged, the engine appears in the S331.
Okay, let me clarify. I assume you are talking about their 4.6 liter.
Put that up against an OHV GM Small block and look at the torque curves. The 305/350 isn't going to belch smoke from worn valve guides 100K miles into its life either.
Let's look at some more reasonable engines in comparison to the fortwo... not a 4.6 liter that is the size of the fortwo.

Only to visit you, sweetie. Only to visit you.
I didn't know you were homosexual as well.. yay for us!
Its so sad that people feel they have to defend that which needs no defense. When some one expresses there opinion about a product, it no excuse to call them a troll.
I never called you a troll, I said you were nearing it.
You come to a forum where you have a ton of people who are fans of this car, are paying good money for it, and some who are waiting quite a while, and you proceed to slander it in favor of your prototype. That's where my comment about Daimler producing crap comes in... it's not as if this car were engineered on a cocktail napkin...

As for smart safety numbers...
I requested that information from Smart and they replied "That information is not available for public release at this time..."
If you request it from Any other auto maker they will send you a complete Fact Sheet no questions asked.
When did you ask them this? You are aware that it just underwent testing for the US last month, other than the initial DOT testing, correct? They are not going to release that information before the press does... the Euro NCAP results have been posted for a while though.

If you love this car because you believe its more morally correct, you have lost sight of reality. If you love this car because its cute, its funky, its easy to park, and it get 33mpg, then your on the same page as me.
I agree whole heartedly. It's emissions are not the best, and the fuel economy is not the best.
That being said, it did net one of the greenest cars of the year awards from somewhere on here.
I'm personally buying one because it's unique, from a good manufacturer, and I like the looks and driving demeanor. My current SUV gets in the mid 20s combined average... I've never felt bad about driving it.

Back peddle all you want, but throwing insults at some one (halfway or all the way) for expressing their opinion is unacceptable behavior.

I will say its not that bad of a car. But there's allot they could have done to make it better. And I'm sure that it did start as a cocktail napkin.
Allot great ideas start out on napkins; even mine.
Its what happens between cocktail napkin and show room floor that really matters. From my experience with Daimler, they did what they do all too often, set a parameter for the end product before the completed concept is even submitted for consideration, then hold to them as iron clad boundaries.
This ties the hands of a designer, preventing them from solving a problem that requires them to go out side of the project boundaries. That's why I won't work with them anymore.
As for my Prototype, its a close comparison to the 4two. Comparable size, weight, and engine displacement. I only brought it up to illustrate what the fuel economy could be if they had built it with a TDI Diesel.

When I was composing my post. I always seek out citation before I make statements in a post. I will commend them on there promptness of there reply.

There was no sarcasm in the post I quoted, only vitriol and viciousness directed at another member here.
Sarcasm is an artform. As you have displayed absolutely no artistic abilities in this area, it's recommended that you stay away from where the artists work.
As far as the rest of your post ... well, I'm not the only one who found your post(s) rude. But I will be the first to dismiss you and your misguided vituperation. If you truly are starting a car company in reality other than just in your imagination, you've got quite a bit to learn.

There was complete sarcasm in that post. No vitriol or viciousness implied, intended, or displayed. I can be vicious, there was no need for it, therefore it was not displayed.

Thanks for your misinterpretation, I'm glad I wasted some of your valuable time making this post.

I'm confused.. was this directed at me? If it was, make sure to slow down from your misguided attempt to insult me to see that I'm not the one designing a vehicle.

Your pal
That's presumptuous.

mdfortwoguy: just give it up dude. This is not what this forum, or this thread , is for. Its for discussing the 4two, and the possibility of a Diesel. But in all reality we are never going to get one from Daimler, so I guess its up to the after market community to bring it to us.
However, its likely that we will get an electric version. And that's one I just might buy. I'm sure they can fix the high center line problem in the electric version. Lithium cells can be installed low on the frame, and an electric motor is much smaller than a gas engine. Also regenerative braking may help with the 130 ft stopping distance.
mmmeat: The other guy does have a point on this one. I'm the guy that designing a car. That's where his point ends.
Also I'm not start a car company, its for an existing manufacturer. Its their hope to take the 4two, and any offerings head on in the hyper-compact market and crush the competition. If they are successful, however, that may force Daimler's hand requiring them to introduce a diesel version.
