Mine went out at approx 6000 miles and didn't come back. Dealer had to order the speedo pod, came in about a week, and replaced under warrantee. I blame poor quality control in cheap Chinese LCD's.

...maybe it's just me.. but...if your battery is soooo low that it can't burn a tinny display on the cluster I don't think it will have the juice to even turn the starter

jetfuel...just cranking

I had a friend who had a toggle switch in his cup holder that turned the dash off/on. I have no clue what it switched but it did not record anything while it was off.

I do know he was very proud of the low mile car he picked up for a steal

He sold it off after he found the switch.

I believe that qualifies as odometer tampering - whoever put in the original switch.

I didn't notice, do the people with the - - - - problem have the optional tach and clock pods? Not sure how that might be related since the connection would be through the computer that runs everything, but it is an instrumentation variable. If you have a ScanGauge or equivalent, does an error code show up when the dash problem occurs?

The problem with the spedo getting - - - - is that the data request to get the odometer value went unanswered. I had this problem once from a loose connector. I think either the SAM or the ECU is the one counting the ticks, so even if the spedo is disconnected, the millage is still recording. The TRIP odometer on the other hand *is* stored in the spedo. And even if the odometer value isn't read, it still shows up.

I've actually been having an issue with my odometer, and iwhen I turn my car on it shows -600 and has been gradually decreasing to -900. Within about ten minutes the real mileage pops up... The battery is new, what gives?

Is it the odometer or the trip meter? If it's the trip meter, it sounds like the maintenance reminder has not been reset and it is counting down how many hundred miles past the service mileage you are. So, -900 would mean you are 900 miles past a 10K service OR whoever did the service last didn't reset the maintenance reminder.
