Gee Oldbike,

Hate to see you were doing all that worrying. Glad you finally put it behind ya.

DIY= Do It Yourself

I looked for a site where you could search on acronyms and abbreviations and found this, perhaps it will help:

Yes it does, but not the volume as OCD or contentious as it gets on some other European car owner forums, thus my reply

Loved your post and the well received responses. I love my smart and have over 4,200 miles and the only worrying I do is over not having a slim tire and tote in me smartie. Someday I will and until then and beyond, I will love this great car! Regina

Thought it was time to revive this post. One taking an honest look at smart ownership; three cheers for oldbike!!:

After this was proven, I followed my second suggestion closely (see below)

I quit watching the ScanGuage so closely, placed it in the glovebox in case I need it, and started looking around outside the car.

I quit worrying about the “minute-by-minute” fuel economy, knowing that no matter what, it is better than I was getting with my old car.

I quit wondering why it does not get better mileage than my old 1991 GEO Metro. It is cleaner, faster, safer, quieter and MUCH more comfortable.

I quit reading posts about when to change the oil and will do whatever I have did in the past. At minimum, I follow the factory recommendations. It will all work out.

I quit worrying about the cost of an oil filter. I just spent $15,600.00 for the car. Why should I worry about a couple of oil filters per year?

I quit worrying about whether the shifter will stick. Some do, MOST don’t. Odds are in my favor that I will not have problems. All cars have quirks.

I quit worrying about the unfamiliar whirring and clicking noises the car makes. They will soon become familiar. Again, all cars have quirks.

I quit wondering why the seat does not recline any farther. I would not have noticed it if I had not read the post about it. I am not sleeping in the car.

I quit worrying about brake dust on the wheels. I have never had a disc brake car that did not get dust on the wheels. I wash it off, if I am not busy enjoying driving the car.

I quit worrying about its heating/AC system. I have never sold a car because the A/C was not cold enough or the heater was not hot enough.

I quit worrying about if it should be spelled “smart” or “Smart”

I quit adding to the list and started enjoying the car MUCH more

Thanks, I missed it the first time around - didn't have my car then, but now I do. So yeah, I guess I better stop looking at that darn gas gauge and trying to calculate its mpgs on the fly. Its going to get what its going to get - and will still be better then the other two cars in the fleet. Just enjoy it!

When I first drove my Smart it didn't drive very well. The shifting was hard, didn't shift in the correct gear correctly when I needed power, etc. After about 100 miles it started to learn my driving style and I started to learn it's driving style. Now at over 250 miles it shifts really nice and smooth and it gives me power when I call for it. Everyday it keeps getting better. It takes a while to break it in and the computer to learn your driving style. Now I can't drive it enough. I love it when there is a traffic jam! More time I get to spend in my Smart! I feel so sad when I reach my destination, the ride is over. All day long I look forward to go out and go driving again.

Too bad they can't make them fast enough. Everyone needs one!
