It takes me 1 1/2 hours to drive 15.8 miles into work. If I'm lucky it will only take me an hour. Gotta love the traffic going into DC. I'm lucky if I get my smart up to 40 miles per hour.
I drive anywhere from 120 to 150 miles per day, five days a week. I've had my Fortwo for 2 weeks and I already have over 1500 miles. I don't have cruise control, but it would be nice. Heavy wind can be very challenging. All in all, my Fortwo is a great commuter car.
140 miles a day, 700 miles a week without side trips, 25000 miles in 7 months now. One of the best commuter cars I have ever owned. To heck with all this city car junk, this car was made to commute.
When I lived in Silver Spring, my 12.3 mile commute took anywhere from 45 minutes to 2.5 hours. I had the smart for about 2 weeks when I moved, so my experience was somewhat limited. It is certainly a lot more nippy in traffic, and people seemed to let me in more often in gaps in traffic than they do in the VUE.
On the beltway sections of traffic, it did wonderful as well - same thing, you can zip through the clusters of stupidity on the road and not look like an ass doing it.
I moved to Bethesda now... I'm in a midrise tucked in between a couple of high rise condo buildings and the US NRC... if it weren't for those, I would be able to see my office from my living room. That being said - my 5 minute garage to garage commute in the morning is wonderful (if I were not dragging a laptop bag and other items, I would walk it more often). I still run a lot of errands during the day and such, and it is great.
Out on the open road - I have found mine to be rather buttoned down. At speeds approaching 85-90, the front wants to hunt a bit out on 270, but it is still comfortable and relaxing to drive.
SmartEnuf, this tread is about commuting, not use cruise control or adding cruise control, or your rudeness. If you agree with me, what part don't you understand??????? or are you
obtuse?????

What the heck is your problem? I was simply responding to the original post with a suggestion, then you went in and suggested that CC is only for long distances, which I disagreed with. Then you had to add an insult by suggesting I turn my brain off when I activate the CC.
I'm not sure you know what obtuse means because you keep proving to be an example of obtuseness with your posts. But just so you can practice your reading skills, here's the original post again:

Do you have a long commute everyday?
I will be (very soon) doing about 65 miles per day in my little smart car. Has anyone been doing this and what has been your experience? Any advice? [emphasis added]
You see the last sentence, which I highlighted in bold underline for your convenience? The OP asked for advice. I suggested cruise control for a long commute. The OP can take that suggestion or leave it; I don't care. I have a 20 minute commute in moderate traffic, and the CC works perfectly for me. I was simply relaying that experience as advice in response to the OP's request.
And just so it doesn't go to your head, I'll note that I agreed with only a very small part of what you said. The only part that made sense, by the way. The rest of it was nonsense, as I noted.
SamrtEnuf, I was responding too!!!!, to the original question. I find using curise control in commute driving to be very dangerous. Sorry you can't see that! Your just plain rude.

This is debating with both hemispheres tied. End of thread.

With all due respect - I highly doubt anyone is going to be using Cruise if they feel it is unsafe to do so... there is a certain amount of driver involvement in deciding to turn it on.
That being said, what may work for you may not work for others... a commute in DC, LA, Chicago, or New York is going to be vastly different than a commute in Kansas.
